Youth Red Cross Report (2013-2014)

    The Youth Red Cross society of Wavoo Wajeeha Women’s College is striving hard to induce among the students the spirit of active involvement in the service of community by organizing Blood Donation Camps, Awareness camp and the like. The Youth Red Cross society of our college has taken up a number of activities and organized different programmes to generate an interest among the students regarding their responsibility towards the society.


    The inauguration of Youth Red Cross for the academic year 2013-2014 was held on July 8, 2013. The Programme was chaired by Mrs. S. Mathumathi, IAS, Commissioner of corporation department Tuticorin. The oath taking ceremony of the college union was presided over by our Principal Dr.V.Sasikala M.A, M.Phil., Ph.D.,

    On that auspicious occasion M. Kuthubu Sharmila of III B.A Eng & R.Buvaneswary of II B.Com were selected as the secretary and joint secretary respectively Miss. I. Malini M.Com., M.Phil., Lecturer in department of commerce was selected as Vice-President for the club.

Activities for 2013-2014

1. The Youth Red Cross activity was held on 20.07.2014. The Chief Guest Arulnithi Mrs. L. Krishnaveni, Programme Officer, Manavala Kalai Mandram, Tuticorin presented a lecture on “Yoga for Health”.

2. A blood group testing camp was conducted by Dr. Shanthi of Medical College, Tuticorin and Team Members, Government Blood Bank, Tuticorin on 16.09.2013 where 382 students identified their blood groups.

3. Blood Donars Club of our college organized a blood donation camp on 17.09.2013. The Government Medical College, Tuticorin lead by Dr. Shanthi and team members also belonging to the blood bank of Government, Medical College wound up the camp successfully, in which 63 students and 5 staff donated blood during the camp.

4. The second meeting of this club was held on 19.09.13. The Keynote speaker of the day was Mrs. M. Subbu Lakshmi, IRCS Life Member, Bishop Caldwell College, Tuticorin. She delivered a lecture on the topic “India’s Wealth and Youth’s Strength”.

5. The third meeting of this club was held on 26.09.13. The Chief Guest of the day was S.K.C. Kumaragurubaran B.A., LLB, S.Prakasha Vinok B.Com., B.L., & S.Sathees Balan M.A., B.L., President, Advocate Association, Tuticorin. They enlightened the students with their knowledge on “Cyber Crime”.

6. The fourth meeting of this club was held on 26.02.2014. Dr.D.Amuthan, Department of Surgical, Government medical college, tuticorin was the chief guest and he created awareness on “Cancer”.

7. Youth Red Cross coordinator Miss.I.Malini M.Com., M.Phil., Department of Commerce attended 3 days Zonal level orientation training programme was conducted for YRC programme officers by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

8. Our YRC, Wavoo Wajeeha Women’s College was awarded “IAB Empowerment Champions 2014 Silver Zone” by the Indian Association on 15.2.2014 for the amount collected for the blind.
